Here is the reality (from the Remember Nhu website), “In countries around the world it has become culturally acceptable to sell your children when ends don’t meet. Due to the high death rate in the sex trade (3 years or less), there is an increasing demand for more and more workers. Sadly, both boys as well as girls are wanted to fill brothels. It is because of the supply and the demand that horror of the sex trade continues. One of the reasons why prevention works is because of the education that happens when we come to the aid of a family. When a family is desperate enough to sell their children, we step in and offer a much better solution: we will take care of them for you. The family is allowed to visit whenever they want, but this rarely happens. It has become shameful now in these villages to sell your children. What was culturally acceptable is now unacceptable. That is our approach to ending sex trafficking; cutting off the source as well as protecting children before their lives are forever damaged.”
Remember Nhu exists to prevent the exploitation of children in the sex trade industry throughout the world. Four objectives keep us anchored to that vision…
Meeting physical needs: Children with little to no shelter or food and not even basic medical care are at risk of being sold. Meeting the physical needs of children protects them from the sex trade.
Meeting educational needs: When honest, sustained work is an actual possibility, the financial allure of the sex trade industry lessens immensely. A quality education and/or practical vocational training gives children the means to opportunities for a future.
Meeting emotional needs: Children disconnected from the loving care of concerned, responsible adults are at risk. To grow and nurture children inside the love of a family protects them from the sex trade.
Meeting spiritual needs: Children deprived of any real, lasting hope are at risk. When introduced to the incomparable love of Jesus, children are introduced to a new and accurate vision of themselves: that they are of deep, intrinsic, and eternal value. Nurturing children into mature disciples of Jesus protects them from the sex trade.
Remember Nhu and Hear the Cry, are equally committed to and will never discriminate against or withhold care from a child of a different religion, worldview, or persuasion. Be The Change and help end child sex slavery in our generation!
Hear the Cry has a number of homes in SE Asia that we fund and care for. We send multiple teams a year to work and show love to these incredible children. We have also built four tilapia fish farms to help bring financial sustainability to the homes. There are a number of ways you can get involved with the work we do. Such as sponsoring a child in one of our homes, going on a short term trip, interning with Remember Nhu in SE Asia and giving to one of the ongoing projects we are working on. Check out below to find trip and projects to get behind.
